ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM (AIP)

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a pathway for permanent residence for skilled workers
and international graduates from recognized post-secondary institutions in the
Atlantic Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador,
and Prince Edward Island.

Employers who wish to hire foreign nationals must be designated by the province in which they
are based by showing that they are in good standing.

Designated employers can then obtain an endorsement for the person they wish to hire by
demonstrating that they have not been able to fill the position with Canadian
citizens or Permanent Residents, among other requirements. Once an endorsement
is received, the foreign national can then apply to IRCC for permanent residence
before the expiry date of the endorsement. They may also apply for a temporary
work permit so that they can work while their application is being processed.
